How It Works

The technology is well-proven, but a heat pump isn't a boiler swap. What makes the difference is treating it as a coordinated, fabric-first retrofit: design first, install second, commission properly, and register the warranty and MCS certificate on completion.

HOW IT WORKS

Heat Moves In. Your Home Stays Warm.
A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into your home. It delivers more heat than the electricity it uses, which is why a well-designed system can run efficiently alongside radiators, underfloor heating and a hot-water cylinder.
  • The evaporator collects heat from the air, even in cold weather. It does not burn fuel to create heat.

  • A small amount of electricity drives the compressor, which concentrates the collected heat to useful temperatures.

  • Heated water is stored in a cylinder sized to your household demand, not a default guess.

  • Heat is delivered at lower, steadier flow temperatures than a typical boiler, through radiators or underfloor heating.

A heat pump is a long-term upgrade, and there's real help with the cost. Funded routes reduce upfront cost, while finance options can spread what remains. We confirm everything in writing at your free assessment.

Grants & Funded Routes

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes up to £9,000 off the cost of an eligible air source heat pump. We're MCS-certified, so we apply for the grant and take it straight off your quote. You don't have to claim anything yourself.

Lower Running Costs Than You'd Expect

A heat pump delivers three to four units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses. For many homes, especially those coming off oil or LPG, that can mean lower running costs than the system it replaces. How much depends on your insulation, the system design and your electricity tariff, which is exactly what we assess before we quote.

Heating Upgrade

Very helpful, friendly and reliable. I used CRS in spring 2023 to do a fairly big retrofit including installing an Air Source Heat Pump, completely new 'wet' central heating system and a small solar panel array. Keith and the team were really helpful and friendly throughout and although there were a few hiccups and delays for various reasons, they kept communicating with me which really helped, until it was all completed. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

The lower the heat loss, the lower the running temperature (what installers call flow temperature) the heat pump can run at, the better its real-world efficiency. CRS handles insulation and ventilation in-house, so the wider retrofit joins up rather than being treated as a separate problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

A correctly designed and commissioned heat pump can heat a typical UK home to comfortable temperatures all year round. The key word is designed. That's why every CRS heat pump starts with a full heat-loss calculation, an emitter assessment and a fabric check before any quote.

Sometimes a few, sometimes none, occasionally a wider upgrade. We only recommend emitter changes the heat-loss design shows are needed to run at sensible flow temperatures. We'll tell you honestly which radiators are fine and which aren't.

Most homes can take a heat pump, but the lower the heat loss the better the performance. We look at insulation and ventilation alongside the heating so the system isn't fighting an uninsulated fabric. Where fabric improvements would help, we'll explain the options without pressure.

Modern units are quiet, but siting matters. We assess clearances, the distance to neighbours and reflective surfaces during the survey, and select and position the unit accordingly.

We register the manufacturer warranty on your behalf and provide the MCS certificate on completion. Warranty duration depends on the manufacturer and product chosen, confirmed in your written proposal.

Eligible homes may qualify for funded routes such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme or other current schemes. We'll explain what you may be eligible for and what it would mean for your quote, without making funding the focus.
