Assessment Evidence

Condensation And Mould Are Symptoms, Not The Diagnosis

As homes are insulated and draught-proofed they exchange less air with the outside. Without a path out, moisture from cooking, showering and drying clothes lingers and lands on the coldest surfaces. We assess the whole home, moisture sources, current ventilation and humidity, before recommending a strategy.

Why It Matters

A Whole-House Approach To Air And Moisture

As homes are insulated and draught-proofed, they exchange less air with the outside. The right ventilation strategy keeps moisture, humidity and stale air in check so the fabric works as intended.

Insulated Homes Exchange Less Air

Insulation and draught-proofing reduce uncontrolled airflow. Helpful for warmth and energy, but moisture and stale air have fewer routes out.

Moisture Builds Up Without A Path Out

Cooking, showering, drying clothes and breathing all add moisture to indoor air. Without ventilation it lingers and lands on the coldest surfaces.

Ventilation Supports Air Quality

Continuous, controlled airflow helps manage condensation and keeps indoor air fresher. The right strategy depends on the home, not a single product.

What We Often See

Common Patterns We Assess

These are common indicators that ventilation may be part of the picture. We assess each one in context rather than jumping to a conclusion.

How We Check

We measure indoor humidity and surface temperatures, and check whether moisture sources are matched by adequate extract.

How We Check

We look at cold-spot patterns, ventilation paths and how rooms are used, alongside any fabric or insulation factors.

  • Ventilation Paths
  • Room Use

How We Check

We assess air movement through the home and check whether existing extract is working or has stopped performing.

How We Check

We take humidity readings, review what was done to the fabric, and re-balance the ventilation strategy to suit.

Options

Ventilation Options, Matched To Your Home

There is no single right product. The strategy depends on the property, how it is used and what has already been done to the fabric.

Positive Input Ventilation (PIV)

A loft or wall-mounted unit gently introduces filtered air to the home, helping displace moist, stale air through existing leakage paths. Matched to your home.

MEV / dMEV (Continuous Extract)

Continuous low-level extraction from wet rooms with boost on demand. Suited to homes where targeted, quiet extract is the right approach. Matched to your home.

Intelligent / Humidistat Extraction

Humidity-sensing fans that respond to actual moisture levels in bathrooms and kitchens, rather than just running on a timer. Matched to your home.

Trickle Vents

Background ventilation through window or wall vents, used where the strategy calls for passive make-up air alongside mechanical extract. Matched to your home.

Our Process

1

Assessment

We look at the whole home: moisture sources, current ventilation, humidity readings and any airtightness changes from insulation or draught-proofing.

2

Strategy

A written recommendation explaining the ventilation approach for your home, why it suits the property, and how it coordinates with any insulation works.

3

Install

Qualified installers fit the unit, ducting and grilles cleanly, with controls and humidistats set up to suit how the home is actually used.

4

Verification

Airflow commissioned and recorded, controls demonstrated, documentation issued and the work covered by an insurance-backed guarantee.

Coordinated With Insulation

We Balance Airtightness With Airflow

Insulation and ventilation are two halves of the same job. When fabric is upgraded, airflow needs to be re-considered so the home stays comfortable and the fabric performs as intended.

Real Homeowner Reviews

Loved By Homeowners, Trusted By Experts

We're proud to help South Wales homeowners protect the property they live in every day. Here is what some of our customers have shared after working with us.

PAS 2030 Certified

After loft and cavity insulation we started seeing window condensation. CRS assessed the whole house, fitted a PIV and replaced our bathroom fan. The mornings are noticeably drier now.

Eleri TCardiff · March 2026
Ventilation & Extraction

Quiet install, tidy ducting and they walked us through the controls before they left. They were clear that it manages condensation rather than promising to cure mould, which I appreciated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ventilation helps manage condensation and supports indoor air quality, but it is rarely the whole story. We assess the home first to understand the moisture sources and the fabric, and we describe what the ventilation will and will not do honestly. We do not promise to cure mould from a single product fit.

Neither is automatically better. PIV introduces filtered air to dilute and displace moist air through existing leakage paths, while continuous extract (MEV / dMEV) removes moisture at source from wet rooms. The right choice depends on your property, layout and how the home is used, which is why the assessment comes first.

Modern PIV, MEV and humidistat extract fans are designed for continuous low-level running and are typically very quiet in normal operation. Boost modes are louder but short-lived. We size and locate units to keep noise unobtrusive.

Often, yes. Insulation and draught-proofing reduce uncontrolled airflow, which means the existing ventilation may no longer be enough. We frequently assess ventilation alongside or after insulation upgrades to keep airflow and airtightness balanced.

Continuous ventilation systems are designed to use very low power in normal operation. Exact running costs depend on the unit, settings and tariff, so we describe running cost qualitatively rather than quoting a fixed figure.

Yes. We work with landlords, managing agents and housing associations on condensation and mould response, communal ventilation, tenant guidance, reporting and completion documentation, in a non-alarmist and compliance-minded way.
